Community Development Advocates of Detroit (CDAD) was formed in 1995 and
reorganized in 1997 as a trade association to provide a citywide voice for community
development organizations (CDOs) in Detroit. In 2000, CDAD received its 501 (c) 3
tax-exempt status. CDAD's mission is to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of
Detroit CDOs.
CDAD currently has over 90 members and supporting member organizations
representing approximately 55 CDO and 35 technical service providers. CDAD
requires that CDC member organizations meet the following criteria:

including the physical revitalization of affordable housing, commercial or
industrial areas
- Have specific geographic boundaries within the city of Detroit
